| WA-PTA240578 | North Fremantle Station is currently accessed via staggered, at-grade pedestrian level crossings over the railway lines, spaced approximately 73 meters apart. This configuration has led to significant inefficiencies in connecting the station with the proposed shared paths that link Curtin Avenue and Stirling Highway. The primary objective of the North Fremantle Station (Down Main) Pedestrian Crossing Relocation (the Project) is to enhance the connectivity of the Principal Shared Path (PSP) along Congdon Street to the Curtin Avenue. This enhancement is expected to significantly improve access for cyclists and pedestrians traveling between Curtin Avenue and Congdon Street. The current pedestrian crossing setup poses challenges for people with disabilities, parents with prams, and the elderly. By relocating and aligning the crossings, the project aims to: a) Enhance Pedestrian Connectivity: Provide a more reliable and efficient interconnection for pedestrian movements east and west of the rail reserve. b) Improve Station Accessibility: Enhance access to the station for users approaching from Curtin Avenue, ensuring safer and more convenient access for all. c) Upgrade Cyclist Route Connections: Offer improved route connections for cyclists utilising the upgraded PSP along Congdon Street to the Curtin Avenue, promoting better integration with existing and future cycling infrastructure. The project focuses on relocating the protected Down Main pedestrian crossing closer to North Fremantle Station, aligning it with the existing Up Main crossing. Additionally, the unprotected Leighton Siding pedestrian crossing will be relocated to align with the repositioned crossings. These changes will enhance both safety and connectivity for pedestrians and cyclists. The PTA is seeking the engagement of an experienced Contractor to be PTA’s Independent Safety Advisor (ISA) during the key phases of the Project. | Public Transport Authority | $226,449 |
