Brief
The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) is delivering the Bruce Highway Targeted Safety Program (BHTSP). The Bruce Highway is a vital 1,673 kilometre north-south corridor in Queensland, connecting Brisbane to Cairns. In January 2025, the Australian and Queensland governments announced a joint funding commitment of $9 billion towards the BHTSP to enhance safety and uplift deficient sections of the highway to achieve a three-star rating. The BHTSP focuses on sections of the Bruce Highway between Gympie and Cairns with a high safety risk. Projects to be delivered through the BHTSP will be awarded to prequalified contractors and prequalified on the Construction Panel. The BHTSP will be delivered in the following districts: Far North Queensland District Fitzroy District Mackay/Whitsunday District Northern District Wide Bay/Burnett District The Design Panel Agreement sets out an Engagement Process under which a Panel Member may be engaged to deliver a project/service under an amended Consultants for Engineering Projects (CFEP) contract.
