Brief

The Port of Townsville is a potential entry route for exotic and invasive mosquitoes as well as a potential export pathway for Australian mosquitoes into other global Ports. Two species of greatest risk for the Port are the Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus, known carriers of viruses including Dengue Fever, Chikungunya virus, Zika, Yellow Fever, and Malaria. As discussed further in the scope of work, mosquito management includes mosquito treatment, surveillance and reporting of mosquito numbers (including species), and surveillance of the Port area for potential mosquito breeding areas and recommendations for improvement.
