On 1 July 2017, the Department of Corrective Services (DCS) and the Department of the Attorney General (DotAG) amalgamated to become the Department of Justice (DoJ). The Customer is the agency principally responsible for assisting the Attorney General, and Minister for Corrective Services in developing and implementing policy, and the administration and compliance with approximately 200 Acts. The Customer has a diverse range of services, which have the potential to affect all Western Australians. These include: Justice Services Court and Tribunal Services; Custodial Services; Corrections Services; Offender Management and Community Safety; and Victims Support. Services to the Community Advocacy, Guardianship and Administration Services; Trustee Services; and Birth, Death and Marriage Services. Services to Government Policy Advice; Legal Advice and Representation; and Legislative Drafting and Related Services. The Customer’s Court and Tribunal Services Division administers more than 123 court locations across Western Australia. It is also responsible for managing tribunals and boards, the Sheriff’s Office, including the Fines Enforcement Registry, as well as providing services to victims of crime, and children engaged in the justice system. The Court and Tribunal Services division provides: Support services to the judiciary; Court buildings, accommodation, technology, security and staff support to all courts, tribunals and boards; Juror management and provision of sufficient jurors to the courts; Fines enforcement; The appointment, registration and training of justices of the peace; and Victim support and child witness services. The Court and Tribunal Services division’s goal is to provide an efficient, accessible court and tribunal system. The production of transcripts is an essential service for Courts and Tribunals.
